Wood Elf Name Generator is a free web tool that builds fantasy names for forest elves and shows you what every name means. It is published at connectioncafe.us, and it exists for one reason: a good elf name should take seconds to find and should still feel like it has a story behind it.

Why we built it

Most name generators give you a word and stop. You do not know why it sounds the way it does, whether it fits a ranger or a healer, or how to change one letter to make it yours. We built this tool the other way round. Every result is assembled from parts you can see, so you can judge the name, keep it, or adjust it with confidence.

What the tool does

Open the wood elf name generator, pick a gender and a style, and press one button. You get a batch of names with a meaning for the first name and the clan name. From there you can:

  • Choose a style: forest, ancient, warrior, royal, druid or dark, each with its own roots, endings and sounds.
  • Choose gender: male, female, neutral or a mix.
  • Control the shape: set a starting letter from A to Z, switch between short, medium and long names, and add or drop a clan name.
  • Find your own name: turn your first name and birth month into a wood elf name that stays the same every time you enter the same details.
  • Save and share: copy a name, save favorites in your browser, download them as a text file, or copy a link to your exact settings.

How the names are built

Names are not scraped from books or games. They come from a hand-written set of original parts: 77 roots such as Syl (wood) and Kyr (arrow), 39 endings such as -ara (song) and -oth (hunter), a small set of joiner sounds, and clan words such as Moss and bough. The generator combines them, then runs a spelling check that removes clumsy results, such as long runs of vowels or consonants and repeated syllables.

The result is thousands of names that sound like they belong to the same forest, because they do. The tool page includes the full list of roots and endings with their meanings, so nothing is hidden.

Who it is for

  • Tabletop players who need a character name before the session starts.
  • Fantasy writers who want elf names that look different on the page and carry a hint of meaning.
  • Gamers who want a username or RPG character name with some story in it.
  • Game masters and world-builders who need names for whole families, villages and cultures.

Our principles

Honest about what it is

The meanings are invented for creative use. This is not a real language, and we never present it as one. We are an independent fan project, not connected to any game company or book publisher.

Private by design

The generator runs in your browser. We do not ask for an account, and the names you save stay on your own device. Read the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for exactly what is and is not collected.

Free and fast

No sign-up, no paywall and no limit on how many names you generate. The tool is light, so it loads quickly on a phone at the game table.

Easy to use for everyone

Controls are labeled, work with a keyboard and screen reader, and adapt to small screens. If something is hard to use, tell us and we will fix it.

How we keep it accurate

We test every change to the generator before it goes live, checking that names are readable, that gender endings behave as described and that each meaning matches its parts. We separate facts from creative suggestions: anything we say about how the tool works is true of the tool, and anything about how a name “feels” is a creative guide, not a rule. When someone reports a mistake, we correct it and update the page.

What we are not

We are not a language course, a trademark service or an official product of any game. Names are short invented words and may overlap with names elsewhere, so check before you use one as a brand or title. See the Terms and Conditions for details.
